At the site of the church there was previously a knight's castle. The Knight of Thetilabach. The name of Dettelbach came from the name of the knights of Thetilabach. The "Fiscus dominicus Thetilabach" (lat. royal farmstead Thetilabach) was first mentioned in a document as early as 741. The place was one of the administrative centers of the Frankish Empire because the old military road between Würzburg and Bamberg ran here!
