"Emscherland" is a joint project of the Emschergenossenschaft with the RVR (Regionalverband Ruhr) and the cities of Castrop-Rauxel, Recklinghausen, Herne and Herten.
The aim is to connect the four cities with each other along the Emscher, which will be free of wastewater by 2020, over a length of 18 kilometers with the "Blue-Green Belt". Based on a continuous system of paths with promenades, balconies and bridges over the Emscher, new recreational areas will be created in the four cities, districts and sights will be linked and existing leisure areas will be upgraded.

Hiking
Only a Ruhri manages to see a path on the stinking Emscher as a highlight 😂But the renaturation is one of the largest projects of water management ever!

Here you can enjoy a great view of the renatured Emscher. At the moment there is still a construction site (04-2022), but the view from the tower is already magnificent.
