The Laghi di Mouton loop trail, starting from Sant'Anna di Vinadio, offers a varied hiking experience through alpine landscapes. You will encounter a mix of terrain, from initial asphalt roads to paths leading towards Passo di Bravaria, then through larch and mountain pine trees. The route becomes steeper as you reach rocky areas and the series of charming Mouton Lakes, including the beautiful Laghi Gemelli, providing panoramic views. This moderate hike covers 2.9 miles (4.6 km) with 812 feet (247 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking 1 hour and 54 minutes to complete.
While generally considered moderate, be aware that sections, especially the ascent from the pass to Rocca di Bravaria, can be more challenging and involve steeper gradients or loose ground. The latter part of the route includes off-trail navigation around the upper lakes, which may be dry in summer. It is best to avoid this section in foggy or bad weather conditions due to the lack of clear paths. The trailhead is conveniently located at Sant'Anna di Vinadio.
This trail is notable for its succession of often less-frequented alpine lakes, offering a peaceful excursion away from crowded routes. You can extend your hike to Passo di Bravaria for additional panoramic viewpoints. The historic Santuario di Sant'Anna di Vinadio, dating back to the 14th century, also adds a cultural dimension right at your starting point.

Embark on the Tour du Lausfer Trail, a moderate hike that takes you through a captivating alpine landscape. This route covers 5.1 miles (8.3 km) with an elevation gain of 1442 feet (439 metres), offering extraordinary panoramic views of surrounding mountains and valleys. You can expect to complete this loop in about 2 hours and 50 minutes, discovering ancient military paths and the serene beauty of high-altitude lakes, including the stunning Lausfer lakes.
When planning your visit, aim for the period from July to September for the best conditions. Be aware that snow patches can persist into early July, potentially making some sections more challenging. The trail features narrow, exposed paths carved into steep slopes, so exercise caution, especially if snow is present. Always check local conditions before you head out to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
This trail is nestled within the stunning Parco Naturale Alpi Marittime / Mercantour National Park, an area known for its very mineral terrain. As you hike, you might catch glimpses of distant peaks like Mont Viso, adding to the dramatic scenery. The abundance of high-altitude lakes, such as the turquoise waters of Lake Sainte-Anne, truly sets this route apart, offering unique visual highlights throughout your journey.
