Pentachaeta and Westlake Vista Trail Loop

    230m

Embark on a moderate jogging adventure along the Pentachaeta and Westlake Vista Trail Loop, a 4.2-mile (6.7 km) route that offers a good workout. You will gain 767 feet (234 metres) in elevation, with most people completing the loop in about 56 minutes. As you jog, you'll pass through varied terrain, including peaceful oak woodlands, open native grasslands, and vibrant wildflower meadows, providing a dynamic and engaging experience.

When planning your visit, remember that the trail is dog-friendly, but your canine companion must remain on a leash at all times. Be mindful of potential hazards like rattlesnakes, which can sometimes be found sunning themselves on the path, and poison oak, easily identified by its distinctive three-leaf clusters. For your safety and to protect the natural environment, always stay on the established paths.

The Westlake Vista Trail section provides expansive views towards Westlake Lake and the distant Santa Monica Mountains, making it a highlight of the route. The trail is also notable for its abundant wildflowers, especially in spring, from April to June, when you might spot the endangered Pentachaeta lyonii, which lends the trail its name. Keep an eye out for local wildlife as you enjoy the natural beauty of this area.
