Hiking
The old runway in Honsem became visible again in the landscape through the “phantom plane”, a replica of a historic Belgian reconnaissance aircraft, the Renard R31. Just before WWII, the airport was built by the Belgian army and used by the Germans during the war. After the war, the airstrip lost its usefulness and largely disappeared into agricultural use.
This site was established to bring this piece of history back into view. You will find information about a bygone period just before and during WWII.

WWII - site of the former Honsem airfield which was later demolished for agricultural land. The replica represents a Belgian Renard reconnaissance aircraft that was then used by the Belgian army.

Hiking
The finished aircraft is reminiscent of balsa wood model aircraft from toy stores. But instead of a 1:72 scale model that could hang in a child's room, this model has the same dimensions as the original aircraft.
The finished model will be exhibited outdoors in an open field. Therefore, like a real aircraft, it must withstand various weather conditions while always standing firmly on the ground! The developers emphasized that it should also withstand use by visitors who want to touch it when taking photos.
