The area is strongly influenced by the patrol route of the hermetically sealed former inner-German border. However, the historical boundary stone also shows that territories have been adjoining here for centuries. SW stands for the former Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, this is where the federal state of Thuringia begins/ends. KP stands for the then Kingdom of Prussia, today the federal state of Hesse.

Hiking

The place is better known by the name "Bildtanne" (Birth Fir), or also "Kettener Schlagbaum" (Chained Turnbuckle) (see photos). There are several hundred historical border stones between Saxony and Prussia, so the name is not a good choice.
