Hiking
In the 16th century peat diggers processed ael (peat) in the buntings of Putten. These peat diggers were called Alemanne or Alemans and that is how the Allemanshaven got its name. The harbor is a reed-lined creek that is home to many waterfowl. The Allemansgrienden and the Beerenplaat pilot whales form a unique part of Spijkenisse that is hardly known. The area extends along the Oude Maas, from the Maasboulevard to the reservoir of the drinking water company. The Allemansgrienden, just behind the wastewater treatment plant, is an area with special plants and animals.
