According to legend, the over 200-year-old fir trees are said to have offered shelter to Napoleon's army during a thunderstorm.
Another derivation of the name assumes that spear shafts for the Napoleonic army were made from the young silver firs.
Declared natural monuments in 1970.
Please note: The Napoleon firs are located a bit deeper in the forest (approx. 10-20 meters), so not directly at the edge of the path. The three fir trees are easy to recognize by the natural monument plaques and the towering, branchless trunks with almost 3 meters in circumference and the dense conical crown.
