    Hiking

A wonderful place with beautiful views of the sea and the coast of the Plana Alta. It is an ideal place to see the sunrise or sunset, very picturesque and just a few meters from the urban center of Oropesa.

The lighthouse was inaugurated in 1857 and used olive oil, paraffin and later petroleum as fuel. In 1924, it was electrified, but during the Civil War, it was turned off and looted.
This lighthouse, with its powerful spotlight visible for several miles, has guided ships to dry land after long days at sea. Its history and location make it a historical enclave and a bastion of economic and social progress in the Villa de Oropesa del Mar. 🌟🗼🌊

The Vía Verde del Mar, connecting Benicàssim and Oropesa, offers a unique hiking experience along the Mediterranean coast. You'll walk along a mostly flat trail, built on an old railway line, which winds between cliffs and rocky coves. Highlights include impressive rock-cut trenches and a 600-meter (1,968-foot) illuminated tunnel through Monte Bovalar, providing constant sea views and the opportunity to explore small beaches like La Renegà.

This 20.1-kilometer (12.5-mile) route, with an elevation gain of 137 meters (450 feet), is classified as difficult due to its duration, estimated at 5 hours and 17 minutes. It's a long hike, so plan your time accordingly and carry plenty of water, especially if you're going in summer. You can start from either Benicàssim or Oropesa del Mar, where you'll find parking options and services.

What makes this Vía Verde special is its combination of natural beauty and historical richness. Along the way, you'll discover ancient medieval watchtowers, such as Torre Colomera and Torre Corda, which protected the coast from pirates, and pass near the Iberian settlement of Orpesa la Vella. It's an excellent way to immerse yourself in the region's past while enjoying a vibrant coastal landscape.
