    Hiking

The beach huts along the sea front at Sheringham are available for hire from the local council. The brightly coloured huts are iconic landmarks of the British seaside. They date back to Victorian times when bathers would get changed in the hut and a horse would drag it into the sea so people could bathe without anyone seeing them in their swimming attire.

Embark on the Norfolk Mountain Walk, a challenging hike spanning 17.2 miles (27.7 km) with an elevation gain of 1098 feet (335 metres). This difficult route typically takes around 7 hours and 25 minutes to complete. Despite its name, you will discover a diverse coastal landscape, not mountains, featuring expansive skies and varied terrain. Expect to traverse tidal marshes, vast sandy beaches, and serene pine woodlands. Keep an eye out for the prominent Beeston Bump, a trig point and viewpoint offering fantastic panoramic views of the coastline.

Planning your hike on this route is made easier by its clear signposting, ensuring straightforward navigation. For those relying on public transport, the convenient "Coasthopper" bus service runs along the entire length of the Norfolk Coast Path. This service provides excellent options for accessing different sections of the trail or returning to your starting point after your adventure.

This trail offers a unique journey through the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You will experience the region's famous "huge skies" as you move between diverse coastal environments. The occasional low cliffs along the route provide dramatic vistas, adding to the scenic appeal of this distinctive coastal exploration.
