Race Point Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse on the Cape Cod National Seashore that is still in operation by the Coast Guard. The original tower was first lit in 1816, but was replaced in 1876 with the current 45-foot tall iron-plated tower with a new keeper's house. The current light is powered by a solar electrical system with a wind turbine-powered back-up generator. You can go on a tour of this lighthouse and the surrounding historical buildings, and actually stay overnight if you get reservations ahead of time.
