This gravel loop on the Plateau de Valensole plunges you into the heart of Provence, offering an unforgettable cycling experience amidst the famous lavender fields. The route takes you along a mix of paved surfaces and gravel paths, with spectacular views of the Valensole Plateau and, on clear days, even Mont Ventoux. It's a fantastic way to explore the "lavender capital" and its surroundings, with the landscape transforming into a sea of purple during the blooming season.

To plan your visit, note that the best time to see the lavender is from late June to early August, with mid-July being the ideal moment. Summer heat on the Plateau de Valensole can be considerable, and shade is scarce, so it's crucial to carry plenty of water and consider an early morning start. The charming Provençal villages along the way, such as Valensole, offer opportunities to rest and soak up the local atmosphere.

The Plateau de Valensole is the epicenter of lavender and lavandin cultivation, making it a prime destination to experience Provence's iconic fields. Beyond its natural beauty, the region is part of the Verdon Regional Natural Park and offers access to lavender distilleries and farms selling local products. This 19.6-mile (31.6 km) loop with 821 feet (250 meters) of ascent is a moderate option that will take you around 1 hour and 58 minutes, ideal for cyclists seeking a picturesque adventure.
