Extract from the Arberland - Bavarian Forest website:
"As early as 1585 a Degenberg lord of the castle had this plateau cleared and settled.
Of the "12 properties with 80 people and 370 cattle" located here in 1832, half of them were still there in 1928.
The people on the isolated Oberbreitenau always had to struggle with rough weather and poor soil. Only oats, potatoes and beets grew here and the harvest was often snowed in.
The Bavarian state bought the abandoned property in the twenties, which now fell to the ground. "
