The North Pool (Busse Lake) – Busse Woods Red Loop Trail offers a delightful and accessible escape into nature, perfect for a quick refresh. This easy 2.5-mile (4.0 km) loop takes about 1 hour to complete, guiding you through a diverse landscape of oak woodlands, marshlands, and open meadows. You'll enjoy lovely views of Busse Lake and cross charming bridges, making it a scenic and engaging walk for all ages.

Planning your visit is straightforward, though it's wise to arrive early on weekends or during good weather, as the trail can get busy. Parking at Ned Brown Forest Preserve is available, and the route is family-friendly and dog-friendly, provided your furry friend stays on a leash. The trail's paved surface ensures a comfortable experience, regardless of the season.

One of the most unique natural features of the Ned Brown Forest Preserve is the resident herd of captive elk, often visible in their designated pasture along the route. This wildlife spotting opportunity, combined with the varied scenery and gentle 29 feet (9 metres) of elevation gain, makes this one of the best hiking trails near Busse Lake for a relaxing and rewarding outdoor experience.
