Step into the enchanting UNESCO Beech Forest of Monte Raschio, where ancient trees create a unique atmosphere. This moderate hike covers 5.2 miles (8.4 km), leading you through a diverse forest that shifts from pine and oak to the majestic beech. You'll gain about 600 feet (183 metres) in elevation, making it a rewarding journey that typically takes around 2 hours and 23 minutes to complete. Look for the remnants of old charcoal kilns and a former quarry along the way, adding a touch of history to the natural beauty.

Your adventure begins and ends conveniently in the main square of Oriolo Romano, just below the town hall, making the trailhead easy to locate. The route is a well-marked loop, guided by clear CAI signposts throughout your journey. You can find designated rest and refreshment spots at Cerrattina, which also provides water points for refilling. Be aware that you'll be sharing the path with mountain bikers and horse riders, so it's wise to stay alert, especially on downhill sections.

This trail offers a chance to explore a truly special ecosystem, recognized globally for its ancient beech forests. The scenery can feel almost magical, particularly in spring when the forest floor bursts with colorful wildflowers. Keep an eye out for diverse wildlife, including the protected Rosalia Longicorn beetle, which thrives in this rich environment. This route stands out as a prime example of the natural heritage within the Parco Naturale Regionale di Bracciano - Martignano.
