The beach at Ajuy ("Playa de los Muertos", translated "Beach of the Dead") once served pirate ships as a landing place.
The somewhat strange name of the bay can be traced back to past pirate raids, which were frequent along this coastal region. They were mostly terrible massacres, in which many locals lost their lives.
