William of Orange married his first wife Anna van Buren in this church on July 8, 1551, then still in the Roman Catholic rite. The Bishop of Cologne blessed the marriage.
Thanks to this marriage, kings and queens of the Netherlands are allowed to use titles such as Countess of Buren and Baron of Grave, IJsselstein and Cranendonk. All contributed at the time by Anna van Buren.
The third child of William of Orange: Maria van Buren was buried in 1616 (Reformed) in the tomb under the choir. Maria van Buren is the founder of the orphanage in Buren.
