On September 29, 1900, the museum, usually only briefly called the National Museum, was opened on Prinzregentenstrasse. The building was designed by the architect Gabriel von Seidl. At that time it was the first public museum (not only accessible to a specialist audience) in Munich and worldwide!

There is a small square in front of this beautiful building and the Angel of Peace can be seen from there. The Eisbachwelle is only a few meters away towards the city center. Unfortunately there is also loud vehicle traffic on Prinzregentenstrasse.
