The Porta Senese in Buonconvento is a majestic and imposing tower gate built in 1379 by the Sienese governors, together with the city walls. It is in typical Sienese style, with a Gothic arch above the entrance, which still retains its iron-clad wooden fittings, restored in 1998.
Buonconvento also preserves a significant portion of the original walls that once defended the city against invaders. The walls and gate were built at the end of the 14th century. Seven towers of the 9 are still visible in the ramparts.
