In the middle of the Market is the bronze statue of the Tullepetaon, the carnival symbol of Roosendaal. The tullepetaon is a fat, eaten guinea fowl with a much too big face, proud, boastful, walking straight from the farm in his clogs. The maker is Leon Vermunt who also made the panels for the plinth. It shows many characteristic elements and buildings from Roosendaal.

Hiking

On November 11, 1991, this bronze statue of the carnival symbol for Roosendaal could be unveiled on the Tongerloplein. The tullepetaon is a fat, overfed guinea fowl with a much too big mouth, proud, boastful, straight from the farmyard on its clogs. (Designer Leon Vermunt).

Tullepetaonestad is the name Roosendaal bears during carnival. The word Tullepetaon is derived from the French word for 'guinea fowl': poule pintade. The statue of the Tullepetaon can be found in the center of Roosendaal on the market and was made by Roosendaal-born artist Léon Vermunt. The statue dates from 1988 and originally stood on Tongerloplein. On October 21, 2008 it moved to the Markt.
