From the small observation tower on the northern shore, the view extends over the lake and the island to the more than 300 m high Salzgitter ridge on the horizon.
Especially in spring, the shore path is one of the popular hiking routes in the city, where many water birds can be observed on the part of the lake that is often referred to as "Reppnersche Bucht".
