The Gustav I Vasa Rescue Monument near Läby commemorates an event from 1521 when the later Swedish King Gustav Vasa, fleeing from his pursuers, fell into the water while crossing the Hågaån, but nevertheless managed to escape. The monument was erected in 1835 at the instigation of King Charles XIV John, although according to current research, it is probably not located at the exact historical site of the event. The memorial stone connects the charming landscape on the Hågaån with an episode from Swedish liberation history.
