Black Gate
Schwarzes Tor in Rottweil is the last surviving city gate of the former city fortifications and is a listed building. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century as "Waldtor" (Forest Gate) and is one of the oldest monuments in the city. The name "Schwarzer Turm" (Black Tower) first appeared in 1566, presumably due to a black paint finish. Around 1571, the tower was extended by two stories with Gothic stepped windows, and in the 18th century, it received a hip roof.
