Wollsack weathering is a special form of weathering and occurs predominantly in coarsely crystalline rocks such as granite. Through the interaction of physical and chemical processes, rounded-edge blocks of rock are formed during wool sack weathering, which are stacked on top of one another like cushions or just like wool sacks. Such rock formations are often encountered in the Fichtel Mountains.

Granite boulders appear in the forest to the right and left of the path, weathered forms of the hardest granite rock similar to wool sacks.
