Hiking
The Hoge Dijk is a recreation area and park in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and extends to Abcoude. In the Middle Ages, north of the Hollandse Kade, on the border between the province of North Holland and Utrecht, there was a swamp and forest area with a colony of herons. You can still regularly watch herons catching fish at various water spots.
Within the Hoge Dijk there are several canals and lakes, some of which can be crossed using bridges. In the winter time, the lakes are sometimes completely frozen and are used by local residents for skating.
