The copper mountain lies to the west of the city Detmolds in the district Heidenoldendorf. The name dates back to the 17th century, when a Kupperhammer was built on the Hasselbach. The coppersmiths purchased copper ore from Olpe and Kassel to process it into trays and plates. The energy for the smithy supplied the Hasselbach and charcoal. Later, pots and pans were also produced, but from 1720 there was a fall in prices due to the large supply of other coppersmiths in Bielefeld, Herford and Minden. From 1750 the coppersmiths in Heidenoldendorf were shut down and fell quickly.
