Marshall Gulch and Aspen Trail Loop

    210m

Embark on the Marshall Gulch and Aspen Trail Loop for an easy 3.7 miles (6.0 km) hike, offering a refreshing escape into diverse mountain scenery. You will gain 703 feet (214 metres) in elevation over an estimated 1 hour and 50 minutes. The trail begins in shaded riparian areas along a creek, then winds through pine and aspen forests, eventually opening up to expansive views of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness from the Aspen Trail. You will experience a transition from lush greenery to more open areas, with glimpses of towering Lemmon Rock.

To plan your visit, head to the trailhead conveniently located at the end of the paved Catalina Highway. Bathrooms are available at the Marshall Gulch Picnic Area, making it a good starting point. Be aware that the altitude, which ranges between 8,000 and 9,000 feet, might make breathing a bit harder for some, so take your time and hydrate. Parking is generally available at the picnic area.

This loop is particularly notable for its distinct seasonal beauty, especially in autumn when the high density of aspen trees transforms the landscape with vibrant colors. The route offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse ecosystems of the Coronado National Forest, from creek-side vegetation to high-altitude forests. It's a perfect choice if you are looking for a relatively short and accessible mountain hike with varied scenery.
