The area around this wayside shrine was already inhabited in the Bronze Age and various peoples lived together peacefully here as early as Roman times. Numerous gravestones and finds that are in the museums of Wr. bear witness to these settlements. Neustadt and Eisenstadt are preserved. The Roman road ran along today's expressway (S4), which, coming from Italy via Ödenburg (Scarbantia), crossed our local area and continued to Vienna (Vindobona).
