Beautiful step to do by bike with remarkable ramps especially on the Veneto side

Nice pass with relatively little traffic.
Can be combined well with the Fedaia to a round.

The San Pellegrino is not one of the most famous of the Dolomite passes, although it actually deserves it. It connects the national road 203 Alleghe / Agordo in the east with the Val di Fiemme and offers a parallel transition to the Fedaia in the south of the Marmolada. There is hardly any traffic on it and therefore a pleasure for every cyclist. In places, however, it has a lot to offer with consistently double-digit percentages. Values of up to 18 percent are achieved there.

Passo Valles and Passo del San Pellegrino — ring tour

    55.1km

    03:45

    1,660m

    1,660m

This challenging ring tour takes you over Passo Valles and Passo del San Pellegrino, offering road cyclists demanding climbs and stunning alpine views in the Dolomites. The route covers 34.3 miles (55.1 km) with a significant 5432 feet (1656 metres) of elevation gain, making it a difficult ride that typically takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes. You will encounter paved roads with steep hairpin bends and gradients up to 15%, winding through lush forests and open mountain landscapes, with panoramic views of the Biois valley and the Pale di San Martino Mountain Group.

When planning your ride, consider starting from towns like Predazzo or Arabba. Many cyclists suggest riding the loop in a counter-clockwise direction to maximize the challenge of the ascents on both passes. If you are cycling through areas with higher traffic, such as the stretch from Moena to Predazzo, look for dedicated cycle paths that provide a safer and more pleasant alternative.

Both Passo Valles and Passo San Pellegrino are well-known in professional cycling, having been featured multiple times as climbs in the Giro d'Italia stages. Beyond its natural beauty, Passo Valles also holds historical significance; its road was constructed during World War I and once marked the boundary between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy.
