Embark on a moderate hike from San Giorgio Scarampi to Roccaverano, a journey that spans 5.3 miles (8.5 km) and includes 907 feet (276 metres) of elevation gain. This route guides you through the serene, rolling hills of Piedmont's Langa Astigiana, offering a mix of shaded forest tracks and expansive ridgelines. As you walk, you will pass through ancient chestnut woods and emerge onto open areas with views of distant towers like Perletto and Olmo Gentile. The path itself takes about 2 hours and 33 minutes to complete, immersing you in the quiet, historic atmosphere of this Italian region.

To begin your hike, you can easily reach the trailhead by train. Take the Alessandria-Savona line and disembark at either Ponti or Mombaldone-Roccaverano stations, which offer convenient access to the route. Once on the path, keep an eye out for the distinctive red and white trail markers of the 501B route; these will guide you reliably between the two villages. This well-marked trail ensures a straightforward navigation experience.

This trail is part of the historic "Giro delle Cinque Torri," or Tour of the Five Towers, a significant route that once linked medieval defensive structures. You will follow a path that connects San Giorgio Scarampi, with its charming stone houses and the Parish Church of San Giovanni Battista, to Roccaverano. Consider climbing the tower in Roccaverano for a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding hills, offering a unique perspective on the region's rich history.
