Hiking
The approximately 29 hectare area, which was placed under conservation in 1989, stretches south-east of Mechtersheim, a district of the municipality of Römerberg (Pfalz) directly on the east-flowing Rhine.
The purpose of protection is the preservation of the species-rich alluvial forest interspersed with numerous smaller still waters, gorges, reed beds and hay meadows as a mosaic-like habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant communities and as an important link between north and south floodplain areas worthy of protection.
