The park lies in the heart of the city, bordered by Fleischergasse/Str. Mitropoliei, George BariΕ£iu-StraΓe, Hechtgasse/Str. Ioan LupaΕ, and Hermannsplatz/PiaΕ£a Unirii.
As early as 1869, the idea existed to create a city garden on the site of the demolished city walls. In 1879, the Beautification Society was founded, and the park was its first major project. It was originally widely known as Soldisch Park.
