    Hiking

The Paseo Del Bosque trail is, at times, a bit far from the river to enjoy it. This is one of the many spots at which you can take a closer look at the Rio Grande. In fact, if you do not want to walk on the paved way, there are several dirt trails next to the bike path which you can use.

This is a beautiful area to appreciate and enjoy the Rio Grande. The river itself is approximately 1900 miles long, starting in Colorado and ending in the Gulf of Mexico. Along the trail, you can spot mile markers to help you gauge your location along this immense river.

The Paseo del Bosque Trail offers a serene journey through Albuquerque's vibrant cottonwood forest, the 'bosque,' where you can wander through natural 'tree tunnels' of foliage. This multi-use path follows the Rio Grande, providing opportunities to spot diverse wildlife like ducks and geese, and even catch distant mountain vistas. It's a generally easy experience, with both paved and unpaved sections, making it ideal for a relaxed outing.

Planning your visit is straightforward, as the trail is accessible from numerous points across the city. It's a popular spot, especially in early October when it offers excellent vantage points for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Remember that it's a shared path, so be aware of cyclists and other users.

This trail is a true urban greenway, seamlessly blending natural beauty with city access. It's part of the Rio Grande Valley State Park and connects to significant attractions like the Rio Grande Nature Center and the Albuquerque BioPark. The 5.7-mile (9.2 km) route, with its minimal 14 feet (4 metres) of elevation gain, is rated moderate and typically takes about 2 hours and 18 minutes to complete, offering a high-reward, low-effort escape.
