Goniądz is a town in Podlaskie Voivodeship with about 5000 inhabitants. The first documented mention of today's Goniądz comes from a document dated August 14, 1358. 1547 Goniądz received city rights. A school was mentioned for the first time in 1571. During the Third Partition of Poland, the city came under Prussian rule (Neuostpreußen), then in 1807 under Russian rule. After the end of the First World War, the city came to the reborn Poland. In 1921 the church from 1779 burned down, after which a new one was built and inaugurated in 1924 (Wikipedia).
