The church, located on the hill where the castle was once located, acts as the nucleus around which the entire town center develops and constitutes a significant example of Romanesque architecture.
After the construction of the new parish church which was built in the seventies of the twentieth century in the center of Sarezzano, the ancient church was gradually abandoned and opened for worship only on particular occasions, such as on the anniversary of the Patron Saints.
