    Hiking

Smokerise Trail is one of the trails in Blevins Gap Nature Preserve. When entering from the parking lot in the north-east, the natural trail first leads downwards through the forest and then becomes flat. Combined with Sugar Tree Trail, it forms a nice loop.

Smokerise and Sugar Tree Trail Loop

    130m

The Smokerise and Sugar Tree Trail Loop offers an easy hike through beautiful woods, providing a remote feel under a dense canopy. You will navigate a varied terrain, encountering large rock outcroppings and numerous creek bed crossings. This route covers 2.9 miles (4.7 km) with an elevation gain of 439 feet (134 metres), typically taking about 1 hour and 22 minutes to complete.

When planning your visit, be aware that the path includes rocky sections with many roots, requiring frequent stepping up and down; strong ankles are helpful. During fall and winter, the creek beds can flow regularly, so waterproof footwear is a good idea. Trekking poles can also provide extra stability on the more technical parts and grade changes.

Located within the Blevins Gap Nature Preserve, this trail is known for its natural beauty and wildlife. Keep an eye out for deer as you hike, and enjoy the distinctive, slightly peppery scent of Spicebush along the way. It is a great option if you are looking for a peaceful outdoor experience close to nature.
