was first documented in 1230 under the Slavic name Telcowe.
In 1241, Duke Albert I donated the village, laid out as a circular settlement in the Wendish style, to Reinbek Monastery. In the center of the village was an open space, where the chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene has stood since 1855.

The current building, the third on this site, was built in 1957/58.
The bell cast in 1646 was taken from the old chapel and hung in the ridge turret. When this bell shattered while ringing in 1963, the purchase of a new bell provided an opportunity to erect a separate bell pedestal from the building. This was installed a year later, according to plans by the Hamburg architect Gert Johannsen, above the entrance to the chapel.
