    Running

This trail has little to no elevation change, which makes it accessible to most people. Following the creek, there's a high chance of wildlife sightings. There are a couple of creek crossings, which aren't necessarily hard, but I think it's good to know.

Embark on a moderate jogging adventure along the Lower Paddock Creek Trail, a 7.1 miles (11.5 km) route that winds through the dramatic Badlands landscape. You'll experience wide-open scenery as you navigate valleys and ravines, gaining 264 feet (80 metres) in elevation. This trail offers a unique opportunity to jog past active prairie dog towns, with the chance to spot bison and wild horses. Expect to complete this journey in about 1 hour and 24 minutes, immersed in the rugged beauty of the park.

Before you head out, consider stopping at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Visitors Center; they can provide a map and update you on current trail conditions, particularly creek levels. Be prepared for very little shade and no reliable water sources along the route, so bring plenty of water and sun protection. Appropriate footwear is also recommended, as some sections of the trail may become muddy after rainfall.

This route stands out for its fascinating geological features, including unique bentonite mud formations and ancient petrified trees that create a dynamic backdrop for your run. Beyond the geological wonders, the trail is a prime location for wildlife viewing, offering glimpses of various bird species in addition to the larger mammals. It's an excellent choice if you're seeking a moderately challenging run combined with the distinctive natural history of the Badlands.
