The Alpinisteig is one of the most famous easy Dolomite climbs and is therefore often crowded. This pass is one of the highlights of the Sexten Dolomites. It was built by the Italian mountain troops, the Alpini, during World War I and later improved for tourist use. The trail is largely a hike, crossing a secured rock ledge for only a few hundred meters below the Zsigmondykopf. It is easy for beginners, but a head for heights is essential.
