Niendorf has retained its charming flair as a fishing village. The first members (1926) of the Altona Yacht Club (AJC), founded in 1913, recognized the sheltered location from wind and waves and gradually moved their boats from the Elbe to the new small harbor in Niendorf, which led to the AJC being renamed the NYC (1934). And this small club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.
