Anyone who doesn't know would never think, while strolling along the beautiful Zug lake promenade, that one of the city's most tragic disasters occurred here on July 5, 1887, when the shore of Lake Zug suddenly collapsed and swept 35 of the suburb's houses into the waters of Lake Zug. Eleven people (including 3 children) were killed. Around 650 people were left homeless. A memorial stone still commemorates this fateful event, which gave the resulting bay its unique name.
