Settlements to house young miners were built in the Ruhr region based on a model by the Swiss pedagogue Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827). The Im Grund settlement was built by 1955 with 15 semi-detached houses for 30 Pestalozzi families. Some of the houses are located around a kind of village green with a community center for the village administration.
