The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Peter in Herchen, a district of the municipality of Windeck, was first mentioned in 1131 and confirmed by Pope Innocent II as being subject to tithes payable to the Cassius Foundation in Bonn. The exact date of construction of the first and/or the current church is unknown.

Hiking

The parish church of St. Peter in Herchen is a three-aisled quarry stone building with a Romanesque, four-story west tower and central nave, a late Gothic choir and newer aisles. Anno 1617, the 22nd day of June, is written on the baroque door. A turret has been attached to the central nave since 1764.
