Baylor Canyon Trail (west)

Embark on the Baylor Pass Trail for a moderate hike through the Organ Mountain Range, covering 6.9 miles (11.1 km) with an elevation gain of 1501 feet (458 metres). You can expect to complete this route in about 3 hours and 27 minutes. As you hike, you'll experience varied terrain and panoramic views, especially from the western side where Dona Ana Peak and Las Cruces stretch out before you. Keep an eye out for the rugged Rabbit Ears peaks and the diverse desert flora, including cacti and yucca, that line your path. The vegetation changes noticeably between the eastern and western slopes, offering a dynamic landscape.

When planning your hike, be aware of parking fees depending on your starting point. If you begin on the eastern side at Aguirre Springs Recreation Area, a $5 day-use fee applies. However, there is no fee if you park on the western side. The western approach offers very little shade and no water sources, so it's crucial to bring plenty of hydration, especially during warmer months. Dogs are welcome to join you on the trail, but please ensure they remain on a leash throughout your visit.

This trail provides a unique opportunity to traverse the Organ Mountain Range, connecting its eastern and western slopes.
