Hiking

The Maitremsen fountain, which has received little attention in recent years in the shadow of the old Volksbank and the construction work around it, is getting a new location in the mill area. This is being done in coordination with the now 93-year-old Raesfeld artist Hermann Kunkler, who created the fountain in 1978. With its two originally rotating upright mill wheels, the fountain establishes the connection to the old town mill. In the upper part of the fountain, a Maitremse crowns as another symbol of the city of Borken.

Coming from the Kuhmturm, you will immediately notice a light-coloured paved area on the left. The Borken Mill used to stand there, which is commemorated by an old millstone as well as the Maitremsen fountain by the artist Hermann Kunkler. A bronze plaque will be set into the sandstone wall on the side in time for the opening, documenting the development of this area. The historic clinker brick that surrounds the plaque comes from the former mill.
