The ponds are part of the park of the Sisi Castle. The grounds were deliberately designed to be natural. According to Duke Max in Bavaria, the aim here was not to create a prim, symmetrical garden based on the French model, but to stage an open, lively, almost wild landscape. Fallen trees are left lying, and bank zones are allowed to become overgrown. And precisely because humans intervene so little, a valuable habitat has been created around the water. Kingfishers and beavers are said to live here.
