It was built in 1870 and has been in operation ever since, serving as a guide for ships sailing along the Asturian coast. The tower is 15 meters high and its light can be seen at a distance of up to 15 nautical miles. The light emits flashes every 5 seconds and its color varies depending on the direction in which the observer is. it offers a panoramic view of the port and the surrounding coastline from its vantage point. It also has a small exhibition that shows the history and operation of lighthouses in Asturias.
