The museum shows traditional life and culture in Gambia. It is built like a traditional African compound and consists of several round huts. A botanical educational trail has also been set up in which around 30 trees whose use as food, medicine or building material is presented and their names. The museum was founded in November 1997 by Abdoulie Bayo, who previously ran the National Museum in Banjul for a long time.
