Hiking
The Hortelbos is located between Houthalen and Lillo, northeast of the old tram track, now a cycle highway. It is located in the Mangelbeek valley.
In 2012, waste intermunicipal Limburg.net bought approximately 8 hectares of land here as part of the CO2 forest project of BOS+. Over the years - partly thanks to plantings by schoolchildren - the forest grew; it is now approximately 16 hectares in size.
There is a bench.
