It is an Egyptian temple from the 2nd century BC. d. C. installed in the Parque del Cuartel de la Montaña, near the Plaza de España. The temple was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government to prevent it from being flooded after the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

In 1970 the Templo de Debod was brought to Madrid. It was demolished stone by stone and completely rebuilt in Madrid. It was a gift from Egypt to Spain, in gratitude for the work that Spanish archaeologists had done in Egypt. The temple dates from the 3rd century BC.
